Prayer of Commendation

Into your hands,  Father of mercies, we commend our brothers in the sure and certain hope that, together with all who have died in Christ, they will rise with him on the last day.

We give you thanks for the blessings which you bestowed upon  them in this life:   they are signs to us of your goodness and of our fellowship with the saints in Christ.

Merciful Lord, turn toward us and listen to our prayers: help us who remain to comfort one another with assurances of faith, until we all meet in heaven and are with you and with our brothers forever.         Amen

The Lords Prayer  (ALL)

Our Father who art in heaven,

                           hallowed be thy name.

                           Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done on earth,  as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

                           And forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

                           Lead us not into temptation:

                           but deliver us from evil.

                       For thine is the kingdom,

                       the power and the glory,

                        for ever and ever

 Amen.

Blessing and Dismissal

Concluding Hymn

The Lord is My Shepherd

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not  want ; He makes me down to lie .In pastures green he leadeth  me , the  quiet waters by. My soul he doth restore again, and me to walk doth make, Within the paths of  righteuosness ev’n for his own namesake. Ye though I walk in deaths dark vale , yet will I fear none ill, For though are with me and thy rod and staff my comfort still .

My table though hast furnished in presence of my foes, My head though dost with oil anoint and my cup over flows. Goodness and mercy all my life will surely follow me, And in Gods house for evernmore , my dwelling place shall be .

GATHERING  HYMN

AMAZING GRACE

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.

I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved . How precious did that grace appear , the hour I first believed.  Through many dangers , toils and snares I have already come.

Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

The Lord  has promised good to me, his word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be , as long as life endures.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’ve first begun.

WELCOME: Chaplain Gary Stone

Opening Prayer:

Lord we ask you blessing on our gathering today.  May you guide our thoughts and prayers as we come to remember our mates who have gone before us into the fullness of your Kingdom. We ask our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.

First Reading: Romans 14:7-9,  10b-12.

Whether alive or dead,  we belong to the Lord

None of us lives for oneself,  and no one dies for oneself.  For if we live,  we live for the Lord,  and if we die,  we die for the Lord;  so then,  whether we live or die,  we are the Lord’s.  For this is why Christ died and came to life,  that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

Responsorial Psalm.

 The Great King

The world and all that is in it belong to the Lord;  the earth and all who live on it are his.

He built it on the deep waters beneath the earth and laid its foundations in the ocean depths.

Who has the right to go up the Lord’s hill?  Who may enter his holy Temple?

Those who are pure in act and in thought, who do not worship idols or make false promises.

The Lord will bless them and save them;  God will declare them innocent.

Such as the people who come to God, who come into the presence of the God of Jacob.

To you, O Lord,  I offer  my prayer;  in you, my God,  I trust.

Gospel     John 14: 1-6

 Jesus said to his disciples:

‘Do not let your hearts be troubled.

Trust in God still,  and trust in me.

There are many rooms in my Father’s house;

if there were not,  I should have told you.

I am going now to prepare a place for you,

and after I have gone and prepared you a place,

I shall return to take you with  me;

so that where I am ,you may be too.
